AllergyAllergy Treatment

As the school year gets into full swing and the weather starts to cool down, it’s time to start thinking about cold and flu season. These viruses, along with other nasty bugs, start making the rounds, and keeping your family healthy becomes a top priority, especially if you suffer from allergies that can weaken your immune system.
Here are some tried-and-true tips to stay healthy this season.

Boost Immunity

A strong immune system is your best defense against illness. Make sure your family is eating a balanced diet and consuming foods that are high in vitamin C, like oranges, strawberries and bell peppers. Don’t forget about hydration – encourage everyone to drink lots of water throughout the day.

Wash Your Hands

Handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Teach your kids to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the restroom, before eating and after coughing or sneezing.

Keep it Clean

Regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces like door knobs, refrigerator handles and light switches can help reduce the spread of germs. Also, remind your children to keep their backpacks as clean as possible and avoid sharing items, like water bottles, with their friends at school.

Get Good Sleep

Sleep is an essential part of a healthy immune system. Make sure everyone in your family is getting adequate rest – that means about 10-12 hours a night for school-aged kids and seven to nine hours for adults. Establish a regular bedtime routine to help wind down from the day and promote better sleep quality.

Stay Active

Regular physical activity can help boost your immune system and keep you healthy. Encourage your kids to play outside, go for walks and ride their bikes. Physical activity helps to flush bacteria out of the lungs and increase the circulation of white blood cells, which helps to fight off infections.

Don’t Skip the Flu Shot

The flu shot is a simple and effective way to protect your family. It’s recommended for everyone over the age of six months, and it’s especially important for those with underlying health conditions like asthma or severe allergies.
By following these tips, you can help keep those pesky bugs at bay and enjoy a healthier, happier season. Remember, if you have any concerns or need additional advice, Allergy & ENT Associates is here to help!
