A hearing test, also known as an audiogram, checks how well a person hears different sounds, tones and frequencies. An audiologist performs the test at one of our clinics in the Greater Houston area.
Audio testing measures hearing sensitivity. It also tests for the ability to hear in different environments with background noise and speech recognition skills.
- Pure Tone Audiometry - This is the most common audio test. It measures the softest sounds a person can hear at different frequencies.
- Speech Audiometry - This test evaluates how well a person can hear and understand speech.
- Tympanometry - This test measures how well the eardrum and middle ear function.
- Audio tests help identify the type and severity of hearing impairment.
- Middle ear function tests detect issues like fluid buildup, eardrum problems or eustachian tube dysfunction.
- Audiology testing determines the need for hearing aids, medical interventions or other solutions.
Your Hearing Test Explained
The Testing Day Process
- A hearing test/audiogram is a simple, non-invasive way to check your hearing. It takes about a half hour and is done in a sound-treated booth by one of our board-certified audiologists.
- The test is a detailed evaluation that measures hearing sensitivity, speech recognition and middle ear function.
- During the test, you will listen to different tones, words and sounds through headphones and respond as instructed. Your provider may also perform additional tests to check how well your middle ear is working.
Your provider will discuss the best solutions for you, whether that means hearing aids or medical treatments. Every case is unique, and so is your treatment plan!
Blepharoplasty vs. Facial Fillers and Facial Rejuvenation
The best option for facial harmony depends on your goals. A facial plastic surgeon can help you decide between blepharoplasty, injectables or both.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from the upper and lower eyelids. It improves the appearance and contour of your eye and, in some cases, your vision. The surgery is done with local anesthesia, general anesthesia or conscious sedation. After the procedure, you will experience downtime for recovery, but the results are long-lasting.
Facial Fillers and Facial Rejuvenation
Non-surgical treatments like Botox and fillers smooth fine lines, reduce wrinkles and enhance facial appearance. Around the eyes, injectables add volume, reduce puffiness and refine eye shape. These treatments offer quick results without the need for surgery.
Your Convenience is Our Priority.

What to Expect During Your Hearing Test
To prepare for your audio test, make sure your ears are free of wax buildup. It’s also best to avoid loud noises before your appointment. After the test, your provider will review the results and discuss the next steps if hearing loss or middle ear issues are found.
During your test, you will sit in a quiet room wearing headphones and listen to different tones, words and sounds. The process is painless and non-invasive. You will be asked to focus and respond to soft tones and words in various parts of the testing.
Hearing Loss in Children
Hearing tests are safe and available for even our youngest patients. Our providers create a comfortable and fun environment to keep children engaged during testing.
We recommend hearing tests for kids with chronic ear infections, suspected speech delay, family history of hearing loss, failed newborn and failed school hearing screenings or possible hearing loss. The test is tailored to the child’s age and may include play-based activities to maintain focus. The evaluation may include a test called Otoacoustic Emissions. This test does not require a response from the child but will obtain responses from the ear with a special ear tip. Our board-certified audiologists can work with you and your child on the best way to assess their hearing health.
